karen magruder, lcsw
Karen Magruder, LCSW is the Director of Undergraduate Programs and Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work. She also manages a small mental health therapy practice. Karen became a trained Climate Reality Leader in Atlanta in 2019 and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Climate Reality DFW Chapter as Membership Chair. As an undergraduate, she studied Business Management and Psychology at the University of Arizona, then earned a Master of Social Work degree from UTA, and a certificate in Climate Change & Health at the Yale University School of Public Health. Her social work practice experience includes long-term care with older adults, program management, international public health, and mental health treatment. Karen created and teaches a Green Social Work & Environmental Justice course at UTA and serves on the Environmental Justice curriculum development task force with the National Council of Social Work Education. She is an award-winning Toastmasters speaker and an American Council on Education fellow.
